Over the last few years, Arizona's public schools have been fending off attack after attack from the GOP-led State Legislature and Tom Horne's Arizona Department of Education. In 2024, Dr. Laura Metcalfe, a decades-long educator, school administrator, and former employee of the office stepped up to run for Maricopa County School Superintendent to fight back against the attacks and stand up as a rare ally for public schools.
Although her campaign lacked support from the county party, which was undergoing a massive overhaul itself, Dr. Metcalfe's campaign remained true to its values and brought on a great team, leading to her outperforming every single Maricopa County candidate, Kamala Harris, and Democrats running up and down the ballot.
I developed and targeted digital ads for the campaign, set up key systems (including their CRM and texting platform), wrote op-eds and emails, and more for the campaign.
